NYCFC signs goalkeeper Eirik Johansen from Manchester City

Manchester City product Eirik Johansen is crossing the Atlantic to play for NYCFC.

New York City FC have signed Norwegian goalkeeper Eirik Johansen from Manchester City.

Johansen, 22, is a a product of Manchester City's Academy and has played on loan at Scunthorpe in England in Sandefjord in Norway.

He spent the pre-season with NYCFC, appearing in two friendlies, and the MLS club announced his permanent contract on Tuesday.

"I had a great experience working with squad and coaches during the pre-season and I'm excited to re-join the team on permanent basis," the goalkeeper told NYCFC's official site.

"The quality of the training really impressed me, as did the way the team came together in such a short period of time."

NYCFC coach Jason Kreis said: "We had a good look at Eirik over the course of the pre-season, and he adapted well to the team and to our style of play.

"It's always good to have strong competition for places in the team, and Eirik will add to an already strong group of goalkeepers vying for game time. It's a long season and guys will get their opportunities for various reasons."
