REVEALED: How Man Utd Missed Out On Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez came close to a move to Manchester United before signing for Barcelona from Udinese in 2011, according to the Daily Star.

The report claims then-manager Sir Alex Ferguson was a big fan of the Chilean and was keen to bring him to Old Trafford, but also faced competition from Manchester City for his signature.

The club even held talks with Udinese over signing Sanchez, which reportedly went well with the player also believed to be open to a move to the Red Devils.

However, Barcelona then entered the race with a huge bid plus the tantalising offer to play with Lionel Messi, which Sanchez was unable to turn down.

United then opted to sign Ashley Young while Sanchez went on to enjoy three successful years at Camp Nou, winning La Liga and the Club World Cup with the Catalan giants before signing for Arsenal.

Sanchez has gone on to become a huge star for Arsenal and a superb signing and will hopefully be fit to face Manchester United on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The forward had picked up an injury while on international duty with Chile but appeared to shrug it off in style with a two-goal match-winning display against Uruguay on Tuesday.

Manager Arsene Wenger has not confirmed he will be fit to face Jose Mourinho’s side but says Sanchez did text him after the Uruguay game to say he was in “good shape”.

Should Sanchez be fit it would represent a big boost for the Gunners, with the Chilean the club’s top scorer already with eight goals, and set to face a United side without the likes of Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling.

Arsenal Consider Former Manchester City Boss As Next Manager

Arsenal are reportedly considering Roberto Mancini as the next manager of Arsenal, should Arsene Wenger depart this summer, according to Calcio Mercato.

Wenger is out of contract this summer and has yet to confirm his plans for next season yet although he has reiterated when asked recently that the Gunners remain his priority.

Mancini is out of work after leaving Inter by mutual agreement back in August after two years at San Siro.

The Italian has also been linked with the vacant England manager’s job, particularly after he was spotted at Wembley on Saturday watching England’s 2-0 win over Malta.

The report claims Arsenal would love to employ Mancini who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his time with Manchester City. The 51-year-old also won the Serie A title three times in his first stint with Inter.

However, Mancini is apparently a man in demand and it is believed he has already received offers from China and could join the likes of Luiz Felipe Scolari and Sven-Göran Eriksson in the Chinese Super League.

Mancini possesses a strong managerial track record having won the league in England and Italy, and will always be remembered by City as the man who brought the title to the club after a 44-year wait with a dramatic last-day win over QPR.

Only the second Italian to win the Premier League, after Carlo Ancelotti, he was also the man who brought Yaya Toure, David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri to the club.

The Italian was sacked by City two days after defeat to Wigan in the FA Cup final and just a year after ending City’s 44-year wait for a title with the club ending the season empty-handed.

Mancini’s management style has often been described as “abrasive” and less than impressive showings in the Champions League with City, may count against him should Wenger leave and he find himself in contention.

Alexis Sanchez Tempted To Dump Arsenal For Chinese Super League

Arsenal ace Alexis Sanchez is yet to sign a contract extension with the Gunners but new developments reveal the forward might be considering a shocking move to the Chinese Super League.

According to the Sun, the Chilean is keeping his options open and might be tempted to go to the Far East for a major pay upgrade.

The Gunners are keen to tie him down to fresh terms but the demands of a £250,000-a-week salary from the 27-year-old has stalled negotiations so far.

Sanchez currently sits on a £130,000-a-week deal which expires in 2018 and failure to meet his demands will force the club to sell him at the end of this season or risk losing him for free the following year.

Reports reveal Alexis can bag as high as £300,000 a week should he move to Asia and his advisers are therefore keeping an open mind on the option.

A similar situation exists with Mesut Ozil who also hasn’t signed any extension to his current contract.

Alexis and Ozil are the Gunners two key players and losing them is something Arsenal absolutely cannot afford if they want to be serious title challengers.

While Arsenal’s coffers are certainly full, meeting such extortionate demands are likely to be beyond their means. The suggestions that Alexis, a player who is incredibly hungry for success, would consider moving to China while at the peak of his powers is ludicrous and it’s purely a ploy from his agents to apply more pressure on Arsenal.

The Gunners may have to blow their current wage structure, but would that be opening a whole new can of worms? They’d certainly would have to shell out as much on Mesut Ozil.

Hopefully the club can find happy medium for all parties. Arsenal cannot afford to lose Alexis just yet.

Wenger Makes Shock Debuchy Admission

Arsene Wenger has admitted he though Mathieu Debuchy might pick up an injury after surprisingly naming him in his starting line-up for Sunday’s clash with Bournemouth.

The full-back started his first game since November 2015 at the Emirates on Saturday but it ended in disappointment after he was forced off early on.

The former France international lasted just 15 minutes before limping off and being replaced by Gabriel.

Despite the early setback, Arsenal went on to win the game 3-1 thanks to two goals from Alexis Sanchez and a rare Theo Walcott header.

Speaking after the game Wenger made the surprise admission that he thought he might lose Debuchy and admits it looks like a long-term problem.

“When I picked the squad I imagined that something could happen to Debuchy,” he told Arsenal’s official website.

“I had Francis Coquelin ready to play right back as well because he can play there, but I went for Gabriel because he’s a defender and is very quick. He adapted well. I watched tapes of him playing full back at Villarreal.

“On two or three occasions he played at left back and I found just one tape of him playing at right back. He was playing in Brazil and I must say that it was not super convincing, but today he did well.

“He thinks it’s a severe one. Don’t go too far because I have to speak to medical people, but you can only assess it really after 48 hours.

“You have to let it bleed and after, usually they have an MRI 48 hours later to see how big the damage is.”

Wenger’s comments on Debuchy are somewhat surprising and do little to reveal why he opted for the Frenchman in the first place. Ahead of the game, the full-back appeared to have little future at the club and has been linked with moves to Roma and Galatasaray recently.

Arsenal ‘Front Runners’ To Smash Record For Real Madrid’s £52 Million Star

Arsenal are reportedly the front runners to land Real Madrid star James Rodriguez. The Colombian has fallen out of favour with the Spanish club and has been linked with a £52 million move to North London (via The Daily Star).

Arsenal are in desperate need of a central defender and a striker so it’s perhaps a little surprising that they are being linked with a move for James Rodriguez. The reports come from Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo which claims that Madrid are looking to cash in on the 25-year-old.

He only moved to the Santiago Bernabeu two seasons ago but the former Monaco man has since fallen out of favour at the club. James made just 17 starting appearances for Madrid in La Liga last season – despite being the third highest signing in the club’s history – and is now being linked with a move to England.

Mundo Deportivo claims that Arsenal and Chelsea are both interested in the player who is valued at £60 million by Madrid. The newspaper reports that The Gunners lead the chase for Rodriguez’s signature because The Stamford Bridge side fears that winger Eden Hazard would become involved in any negotiations.

Wenger is undoubtedly a fan of James Rodriguez. “I know Rodriguez well because he plays in the French Championship for Monaco,” Wenger said in an interview during the 2014 World Cup. “I was absolutely amazed by the quality of his games. For me it was the intelligence of his passing, the suppleness of him and the fluency of his game.

“It also was the speed of his decision making. The penetrative passes he made were just absolutely fantastic. You just wanted to see him have the ball and when you want somebody to have the ball it is always a sign of exceptional quality and he definitely has that.”

While Wenger is clearly a fan of James as a player, it does seem unlikely that he will make a move for the Colombian. Arsenal have Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, and Santi Cazorla who can all play the attacking midfield position. Wenger does seem aware of the pressing need for cover at centre back and a new starting striker and a move for the James would completely go against that.

Sanchez Wanted By Inter As Part Of Massive Overhaul

Inter want to bring Alexis Sanchez to San Siro as they plan a massive squad overhaul in the summer, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri are enduring another difficult season and recently replaced coach Frank de Boer with Stefano Pioli – their ninth coach in just six years.

The Milan side are currently struggling in Serie A, sitting 12th in the table and have already been knocked out of the Europa League, ahead of the last round of fixtures.

However, the club are planning a big spending spree in the summer and want to bring in some star quality in attack, with Sanchez in their sights.

The club hope they can tempt the Chile international back to Serie A, with the forward yet to extend his current Arsenal deal which expires in 2018.

Sanchez spent five years in Italy with Udinese before moving to Barcelona and appears to be at something of a stand-off with Arsenal with reports claiming he wants £250,000-per-week-to stay.

The forward had yet to make his intentions public but Wenger hinted after Sunday’s win over Bournemouth that the club were willing to spend big to keep him.

Inter are also reportedly planning on bringing in further reinforcements particularly in defence and midfield as they seek to turn the club back into title challengers.

Serie A rivals Juventus have previously been linked with a move for Sanchez with Manchester City also believed to be interested, and speculation has also linked the 27-year-old with a lucrative move to China.

Sanchez already has 10 goals this season and is again in red-hot form, and Arsenal’s chances of success are undoubtedly hugely dependent on him staying at the Emirates.

However, with the Chilean banging in the goals and his new contract still unsigned, speculation over his future looks set to continue.

[Player Ratings] Sanchez and Xhaka Star – Arsenal 3-1 AFC Bournemouth

Two goals from Alexis Sanchez and one from Theo Walcott were enough to see off AFC Bournemouth at the Emirates. Callum Wilson had equalised from the penalty spot for the Cherries but the Gunners took all three points for the first time in four matches.

The Gunners started well. It was the quick passing and high pressing which we haven’t seen in the last couple of matches. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain threatened down the left and both Mohamed Elneny and Mesut Özil squandered chances. The breakthrough came in the twelfth minute. Bournemouth defender Steve Cook received the ball from the goalkeeper but his attempted pass back to Federici was massively under-hit. Alexis Sanchez seized on and rounded the goalkeeper before passing into the empty net.

Arsenal were flying and zipping their passes along the floor until injury struck. Mathieu Debuchy was just fifteen minutes into his comeback when he seized up and needed to be replaced. Gabriel Paulista took his place but the change seemed to hit Arsenal hard. Bournemouth came back into it and began controlling possession. Their breakthrough came just after the twenty-minute mark. Nacho Monreal was left one-on-one with Callum Wilson when the striker went down and the referee pointed to the spot. The decision seemed harsh but Wilson didn’t care, dusting himself off before making it 1-1.

The rest of the first half petered out with nothing but half-chances for both teams until stoppage time. Granit Xhaka found Alexis Sanchez in the box whose thunderous strike was tipped onto the crossbar by Adam Federici.

Arsenal started the second half as well as the first. The passing was crisp, the movement was dangerous and the Gunners didn’t have to wait long to reap the rewards. Mesut Özil stood the ball up to the back post for Nacho Monreal to volley a bouncing cross back across the box. Theo Walcott was left unmarked and did brilliantly well to steer his header into the back of the net.

Petr Cech made one exceptional save to deny Benik Afobe with the score at 2-1 but the Gunners made the points safe late on. Mesut Özil played in Olivier Giroud who played in Alexis Sanchez to find the back of the net. An excellent team goal to secure the three points for the Gunners.

Here’s how we’ve rated the Arsenal players:

GK) Petr Cech – 7

Made an excellent save to stop Benik Afobe late on but had a quiet match considering how many shots Bournemouth had on goal. Still, Petr Cech saved everything expected of him including that vital stop late on.

RB) Mathieu Debuchy – N/A

Poor Mathieu Debuchy. The Frenchman didn’t last twenty minutes during his return to the Arsenal team. It was a shame because the right-back started the match very well considering his absence.

Sub: Gabriel Paulista (15′) – 6.5

He probably wasn’t expecting to come on and played out of position so it was a good performance from Gabriel considering.

B) Laurent Koscielny – 7

A better performance from Laurent Koscielny. The Frenchman barely put a foot wrong all match and will be disappointed that his side failed to keep a clean sheet.

CB) Shkodran Mustafi – 7

The German was also impressive. Shkodran Mustafi was impressive throughout and much like his defensive partner, will be disappointed with the Bournemouth goal.

LB) Nacho Monreal – 6.5

No one will be more disappointed with the Bournemouth goal than Nacho Monreal. While the decision was a little harsh, the Spaniard was caught the wrong side of his man. However, Monreal more than made up for it with his excellent cross to find Theo Walcott for the second goal.

Arsenal To Pip PSG To Top Spot [Match Preview]

It is winner takes all in Group A of the Champions League this evening. PSG travel to the Emirates with both sides knowing that the winner will top the group and be granted a presumably easier tie in the next round. It finished 1-1 when the two sides met in Paris but a lot has happened since then.

Background

It’s as close as you’re going to get to a cup final in November. Arsenal take on PSG at the Emirates Stadium this evening with both sides knowing that a win will guarantee top spot in Group A of the Champions League.

The Gunners haven’t lost since the opening match of the season but have stuttered of late, failing to win their last two. The poor performance on Saturday was slightly excused by the late Olivier Giroud equaliser. Arsenal have won just one of their last three home matches with the Emirates proving to be something of a burden on Arsene Wenger’s men.

Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, are enjoying life under Unai Emery. The Ligue 1 champions have won 10 of the 12 matches they have played since the draw against Arsenal in September. Edinson Cavani has begun to find the net again. The Uruguayan has an incredible 10 goals in eight Ligue 1 matches since the last time these two sides met.

What They’re Saying

It was 1-1 last time these two sides met and Arsene Wenger will certainly be the happier of the two managers if that were to happen again considering the two teams’ goal difference. The winner will top the group but could still face a tough test.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are both in second place in their respective groups and would provide a formidable opponent for any team. However, the Arsenal boss is still determined to finish as winners and increase the possibilities of an easier draw.

“We have done the job until the end in a convincing way,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. “It’s a luxury to be qualified after four matches, so last year we had to battle until the end and this season we can finish the job after 5 games and that would mean we’ve done well.

“It’s a cup final over 90 minutes. We need to be serious both defensively and offensively. Both sides will be solid defensively.

“PSG like to take the game to their opponents and so do we. I think the first round was very open and a good game, I hope that will be the case tomorrow night.”

Wenger also spoke about Paris Saint-Germain and their current form and the Arsenal boss seems convinced that he will be facing a different side tonight to the one the Gunners faced in September.

“PSG played their best game of the early part of the season against us in terms of the previous meeting we weren’t on top, we needed a good performance from our goalkeeper and were able to draw,” Wenger went on.

“It’s an opportunity for us to prove we have progressed. I don’t think PSG always pushed to win their league matches so it’s hard to draw comparisons on that with their CL matches.

“I think, to begin with, [Unai] Emery tried to find some common ground with the previous playing style and what he’s trying to create. Between the first match between the two sides and today, I think he’s found that balance.”

Much of the focus of Unai Emery’s press conference was focussed on Serge Aurier. The full-back will not play tonight after he was refused entry to the United Kingdom over a criminal conviction. It’s an unusual situation and Emery is clearly disappointed.

“All the players wanted him to be here,” the Spaniard confirmed at his pre-match press conference.

“The decision has been made and I think [Thomas] Meunier, who is the obvious choice to replace him, has already played in big games and is ready to step in.

“We have solutions. Serge is an important player; it is a shame, especially for him. He is obviously disappointed.”

Aurier might not be alone in missing the match for the visitors. There are concerns over the fitness of Angel Di Maria and Alphonse Areola.

“The final training session is important,” Emery went on. “Alphonse and Angel will start the final session and we will see how they go. I think Alphonse will be available. Kevin [Trapp] is also full of confidence, so if he plays, he will perform.

“For Angel, there is still a doubt. He wants to play. We will see after training. If he does not have any pain in his foot, he will be available. We will make a decision with the doctors, but we will not be taking any risks.”

Team News

As previously mentioned, PSG could be without a number of first-team players. The visitors could be without Angel Di Maria and Alphonse Areola but the pair would not be alone. Serge Aurier is clearly missing, as is the midfield pairing of Adrien Rabiot and Javier Pastore.

For the Gunners, things are a little less certain. Arsene Wenger said in his press conference that neither Theo Walcott nor Aaron Ramsey trained ahead of the match and while Walcott should play, things are a little less clear for the Welshman. Also ruled out of the match are Hector Bellerin, Santi Cazorla and Lucas Perez as well as the long-term absentees. It’s unclear whether Alexis Sanchez will start the match given his recent fitness concerns while on international duty.

In midfield, Francis Coquelin keeps his place and is partnered by Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman gets a rare start with Mohamed Elneny joining Granit Xhaka on the bench.

Mesut Özil will play in attacking midfield in between Alex Iwobi and Alexis Sanchez. Olivier Giroud will start up front after his heroics at the weekend. Theo Walcott has dropped to the bench and it seems that Alexis Sanchez will play from the right-hand side.

Gnabry: Arsenal Really Wanted To Keep Me

Serge Gnabry has admitted that Arsenal did not want to let him leave this summer as he completed a move to Werder Bremen.

The youngster failed to force his way into the first-team at the Emirates and opted to move to the Bundesliga where he has been a huge hit.

Gnabry has four goals already this season and hit the headlines over the international break with a hat-trick on his full Germany debut in the 8-0 drubbing of San Marino.

The youngster’s form has left many Arsenal fans disappointed at his decision to leave but the midfielder says the club did not want to let him go.

“It was the right decision [to leave Arsenal]. Everybody who compares my development over the last four months to my time in England before that can’t come to a different conclusion,” he said via the Mirror.

“That was the main reason for the transfer – I wanted to get more playing time and it worked. Arsenal wanted to keep me, badly. But I had to look after my development.

“If a player does not perform well, a club has no sympathy and they do not want to keep him.”

Gnabry’s move does appear to have worked out well for the youngster although his club side are struggling in the Bundesliga currently, sitting in 16th place, just two points off the bottom.

The Germany international has previously paid tribute to Arsenal, insisting they made him the player he is today and has expressed gratitude for his time with the Gunners.

While Gnabry may still feel like the one that got away for many fans, competition for places remains fierce at Arsenal and there is no guarantee he would have forced his way into Wenger’s plans for this season yet.

Walcott Reveals What He Wants For Christmas

Theo Walcott has revealed he is targeting 10 goals for Arsenal before Christmas and is hopeful he will be given a coffee machine from his wife as a reward for his goalscoring prowess.

The England international is enjoying a fine season in front of goal and grabbed his ninth of the season in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates.

Walcott is just one goal behind top scorer Alexis Sanchez and looks set to reach his target with the Gunners having six games still in all competitions to play before December 25th.

“I want to get 10 [goals] so I can get a coffee machine for Christmas from my wife. She said ‘if you get 10 goals before Christmas I’ll buy you this coffee machine’. So I can’t wait for that and hopefully it will happen,” he told The Guardian.

“Coming from the wing as well, I’m obviously delighted with my goals so far. But I’m more delighted where the team is, progressing from the first disappointing game [defeat to Liverpool]. There’s been a lot of ups and downs but hopefully this game can just make sure we’re back to the level we want to be at.”

Walcott also sought to try to explain his improved form in front of goal and will be hoping to beat his previous season’s best of 21 goals, scored in 2012-13.

“I sat down with the manager at the start of the season and said where I want to play so now I don’t have to think about anything else,” he explained.

“And with that experience in the central position, if I find myself there hopefully I can tuck away the goals, which I have. I’m still working hard in training, in the gym and on the mental side of it. And making sure I have time at home as well.

“Everything seems to be clicking. I just want to make sure I’m the best I can be every day going into training. If I can stay fit hopefully it can be a good season, not just for me but for everyone else.”

Walcott’s form this season has been a massive boost for the Gunners and with just one goal to go it would be a huge surprise now if he failed to reach his target of 10 goals by Christmas Day.

Wenger Reveals Giroud Has Suffered Another Injury

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud has picked up another injury during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates on Saturday.

The Gunners returned to winning ways thanks to an Alexis Sanchez double and a header from Theo Walcott to remain just three points behind league leaders Chelsea.

However, it was not all good news with Mathieu Debuchy, a surprise starter, limping off early on and Giroud also picking up a problem.

After scoring against both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, Giroud was again relegated to the bench for Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

He eventually came on with 14 minutes to go, replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and made an impact, setting up Sanchez for his second of the afternoon.

However, speaking after the game Wenger admitted the France international had picked a problem and would need to have the injury assessed.

“The only worry we have is Giroud, he looked a little bit to touch his hamstring. We have to see how big the damage is,” he told Arsenal‘s official website.

“With the hamstring. In the first moment, he told me that he felt a twitch in the back of his hamstring and we will see. I hope it’s not too bad because he told me after that when he sprinted he didn’t feel anything.”

The news will be a blow to the Gunners ahead of a busy period with Southampton to come in the EFL Cup in midweek followed by a trip to West Ham next weekend.

Giroud has been in good form in recent weeks, and with Lucas Perez still recovering from injury and only recently back in training may well have been in line to feature against Southampton.

Despite his two goals against Bournemouth, Sanchez looks in need of a rest and Giroud’s injury could give Wenger a selection headache ahead of the midweek visit of Claude Puel’s side.

Can Arsenal Turn Around Dreadful Recent Record? – Arsenal v AFC Bournemouth Preview

Arsenal are without a win in three matches and will need to take maximum points as they welcome AFC Bournemouth to the Emirates this afternoon. Eddie Howe will, of course, be without on-loan Arsenal man Jack Wilshere who is unavailable.

Background

Arsenal notched up their third successive draw in midweek against Paris Saint-Germain. The Gunners are still unbeaten since the opening match of the season but will need to get back to winning ways if they are to keep up with their title rivals. There were wins for Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool yesterday and the Gunners simply have to do the same if they are to stay in touch of the top.

AFC Bournemouth, meanwhile are progressing well. The two defeats against Middlesbrough and Sunderland were disappointing but performances have been promising. The Cherries are tenth in the table after a number of big victories but face a tough run of fixtures. Eddie Howe’s men face Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in their next six matches.

What They’re Saying

Much of the focus of Arsene Wenger’s pre-match press conference was on the fact that the Gunners haven’t won in three matches. Wenger seemed optimistic about it but determined to set things right later this afternoon.

“The positive side is that you don’t lose but it’s not positive for us, we want to win our games,” Wenger told the press. “We have built momentum but sometimes you go through spells where it’s less easy for you and we want to get back to the three pointers.

“That’s why I believe we have to find our game back.

“We didn’t lose but if you don’t create then that won’t last. It’s important that we find our simplicity and speed and pacy combinations back.

“We’ve missed our fluency and security in our decision making that made us dangerous in the final third and that’s what at stake for us.”

Wenger acknowledged that one of the main reasons the fluency is missing is down to the absence of Santi Cazorla. Arsenal won just three of the last seven matches which the Spaniard has missed and Wenger seems aware of how important the Spaniard is to the team.

“He’s important to the technical stability of the team,” Wenger went on. “To the decision making and building from a deep midfield to a high midfield.

“That’s an important stage because he gets the ball out from defenders.

“I think we have enough quality players in our side to get around that.

“Santi is a massive player but I think we are good enough to find solutions when he’s not there.”

Eddie Howe, meanwhile, was full of nothing but praise for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal ahead of the clash between the two teams.

“I have been a big fan of their style of __football for a number of years in terms of how they play and how loyal they are to their philosophy – win lose or draw, they will continue to do the same things, but do them better,” Howe said in his pre-match press conference.

“The integrity of the club and the manager, how he conducts himself, I am a big fan of the club in a number of ways.

“Naturally as a player I would watch the top teams and aspire to be those top players. Arsenal were a side I watched a lot to find ways to improve my own game.

“Since becoming a manager I do the same thing. You watch the top teams and look at how you can get your team closer to that, so Arsenal, along with a number of other clubs, have had a big influence on my __football ideas.

“I would say there are slight similarities between how we play and how they play, but I would not say we are identical.

“There are differences in players and ideas, but we are following the same paths, I think.”

Eddie Howe has long been cited as a possible successor to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. Bournemouth have a similar playing style to the Gunners and Howe is undoubtedly one of the best young English managers working right now.

Team News

There isn’t much of a change expected between the Arsenal squad which took on PSG in midweek and the one fit for today. Hector Bellerin and Santi Cazorla continue to sit on the sidelines but Lucas Perez is back in training and could be in contention for the game in midweek.

The visitors could also be without a number of key players. Jack Wilshere is obviously absent for the match but Eddie Howe could also be without Artur Boruc, Jordan Ibe and Andrew Surman, all three are facing late fitness tests ahead of the fixture.

Predicted Lineup

The Gunners should welcome back Petr Cech to the starting lineup but it’s unclear whether Nacho Monreal and Theo Walcott will join him. There are options in midfield as well with Francis Coquelin, Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Aaron Ramsey all pushing for starting spots. We think that Aaron Ramsey and Granit Xhaka will get them but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Francis Coquelin displace the Swiss international.

Sanchez Has Made Centre-Forward Role His Own, Says Walcott

Theo Walcott says Alexis Sanchez has made the centre-forward position his own at Arsenal and has admitted Olivier Giroud may have to get used to life on the bench.

The Chile international took his tally to 10 for the season with two goals in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates.

Despite goals against Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, Giroud was forced to start the game on the bench and while he came on and had a hand in Arsenal’s third goal, Walcott says Sanchez is definitely first choice up front.

“Alexis has stepped up to making that position his and I think he is enjoying it. I can see the smile when he’s playing — he even did an interview which he never does — and in English!” he said via Standard Sport.

“I’ve been trying to say to him, ‘Talk to the guys when you can’ because his English is better than he thinks. I’m very pleased for him and I really enjoy playing __football with him.”

However, Walcott feels that Giroud can still make an impact for Arsenal off the bench, as he did in the 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

“Olivier’s strengths are fantastic,” he added. “I know he will be frustrated with the amount of games he has not played but if you look at his scoring record and how effective he has been when he has been on the pitch — again yesterday, coming off the bench and grabbing an assist.

“It just shows he keeps on reminding the manager what he can do. Alexis, obviously me and him are having a very good relationship at this moment in time. At the start of the season, we created goals for each other and everything was happening.

“Now, you are starting to see signs it is happening again.”

Sanchez’s form has fully justified Wenger’s decision to move him to a more central role and while Giroud has been superb coming off the bench in recent weeks it remains to be seen if he will continue to accept a reduced role.

Star Striker And Key Midfielder Dropped – Arsenal v AFC Bournemouth [Predicted Lineup]

Arsenal welcome AFC Bournemouth to the Emirates tomorrow hoping to end a run of three consecutive draws. Wins for Liverpool and Manchester City mean that the Gunners simply have to take all three points from Eddie Howe’s men tomorrow afternoon.

Matchday: Team News – Predicted Lineup – Betting Preview

Match: Arsenal v AFC Bournemouth
Stadium: The Emirates Stadium
Kick-Off (GMT): Sun 27 Nov 14:15
—–

Here’s how we think Arsenal will line up:

GK) Petr Cech

Petr Cech will return to the starting lineup for the match at the Emirates. Arsenal haven’t kept a clean sheet in five matches and the Czech stopper will be hoping to change that tomorrow afternoon.

RB) Carl Jenkinson

He had a big hand in the second Arsenal goal in midweek and will be hoping for more of the same. Carl Jenkinson has done well in Hector Bellerin’s absence considering how little the Englishman has played in the last twelve months.

CB) Laurent Koscielny

The Frenchman will be hoping for a better performance from the defence than the one against PSG. Arsenal were torn to shreds by Edinson Cavani and Lucas Moura, particularly in the second half and the defence will need to improve.

CB) Shkodran Mustafi

Another defender who will be looking for a better performance on Sunday is Shkodran Mustafi. It was one of the German’s worst outings in an Arsenal shirt on Wednesday and things will need to improve if Arsenal are to take all three points from the Cherries.

LB) Kieran Gibbs

We expect Kieran Gibbs to keep the left-back slot for the AFC Bournemouth match after Nacho Monreal was dropped to the bench in midweek. Gibbs put in a decent performance and offers more of an attacking threat than the Spaniard.

I love watching this Arsenal star: Arsene Wenger’s decision stunned me - Jamie Redknapp Arsenal's predicted team to face Bournemouth Arsenal training pictures ahead of Bournemouth game

JAMIE REDKNAPP has lavished praise on Santi Cazorla and insists Arsenal are missing him big time.

The Spaniard is sidelined with injury and hasn’t played for the Gunners since their 6-0 win over Ludogorets last month.

Arsenal have found it tough without him in the centre of midfield and have endured a difficult November with three draws.

And ahead of their trip to Bournemouth today, Redknapp declared his admiration for the 31-year-old.

“It will be a difficult afternoon for Arsenal, who have midfield issues of their own. One player they sorely miss is Santi Cazorla,” he told Sky Sports.

Express Sport predicts how Arsenal's starting XI will look when the Gunners face Bournemouth at the Emirates on Sunday (2.15pm)

“He's one of my favourite players in the league. I love watching him play and when he's not there they are a different team. He offers so much skill and guile.”

Redknapp went on to suggest Granit Xhaka could feature in Arsene Wenger's starting XI.

The Switzerland international has struggled to hit the ground running in north London since his £30m summer move from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Redknapp believes if you spend big money on a player then he has to be included in crucial matches against the likes of Manchester United.

Xhaka only got 10 minutes from the bench in their 1-1 draw against the Red Devils this month - a decision the former Liverpool player struggled to understand.

“Maybe Granit Xhaka will get another chance,” Redknapp added.

“I was staggered that he wasn't included against United. When you pay £30-odd million for a midfielder, surely that's the kind of game you want him to play?

“Wenger might look back at that and think it was a mistake, but the sooner Cazorla is back the better.”

A win against the Cherries today would see the them close the gap on leaders Chelsea to three points.

Arsenal injury shock: First-team star to return to training next week

ARSENAL defender Hector Bellerin is reportedly set to return to training next week.

Hector Bellerin, who last week signed a new six-year contract at Arsenal, has been sidelined since he picked up an ankle injury against Tottenham earlier this month.

The Gunners right-back was initially ruled out of action for at least a month but The Sun claim he will return to light training next week.

Arsene Wenger, who has been forced to play Carl Jenkinson at right-back in Bellerin's absence, was gutted to lose the Spaniard so late on in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham.

“Hector is out for four weeks,” Wenger said. "He got injured in the last ten seconds against Spurs after a very strong tackle by Danny Rose.

“It’s an ankle injury. It was a bad one. It’s annoying to lose Bellerin. Did Rose want to injure Bellerin? I don’t think so. He just went in for the tackle.”

Bellerin has become as a first-team regular at Arsenal since making his debut in the 2013/14 season, recently penning a new contract worth £100,000 a week.

Arsene Wenger reveals he hasn’t spoken to this Arsenal player for months Arsenal midfielders' creativity compared to Jack Wilshere

ARSENE WENGER has admitted he hasn’t kept in contact with Jack Wilshere following his loan move to Bournemouth.

Wilshere left Arsenal on deadline day to join Bournemouth on a season-loan loan deal after slipping down the pecking order at the Emirates.

The 24-year-old was once Arsenal’s brightest prospect but injuries and poor form saw him fall behind Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka in Wenger’s plans.

Wilshere has since impressed at Bournemouth, making nine appearances to help Eddie Howe’s side up to 10th in the Premier League.

But Wenger, who has mentored Wilshere since before he made his Gunners debut at 16, has revealed he hasn’t spoken to the midfielder during his time on the south coast.

“I leave him to talk to his manager,” Wenger said. “When I can watch him, I do watch him.”

Wilshere’s contract expires in the summer of 2017 and Wenger claims Arsenal will be offering him a new deal in the New Year.

Ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Bournemouth at the Emirates on Sunday (2.15pm), the Frenchman said: “Of course.

“We have to plan around the new year.

“I am happy that he develops well. In the end it was a good decision to go to Bournemouth because he gets regular football. People who watch him say he is getting stronger every week.

“The regular football has helped him develop a lot and come back to the level he needs to be.”

Shkodran Mustafi: This is what I think about playing alongside this Arsenal star

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI has heaped praise on Arsenal centre-back partner Laurent Koscielny.

Shkodran Mustafi has impressed at Arsenal since joining from Valencia in the summer

The 24-year-old, who signed for Arsenal from Valencia in the summer, has formed a formidable bond with the Frenchman in the heart of defence this season.

Arsenal find themselves in fourth position in the Premier League table - three points adrift of leaders Chelsea - and Mustafi says the similarities and willingness to play out from the back is the key to the Gunners' success so far this term.

Arsenal defender Laurent KoscielnyGETTY

Laurent Koscielny and Mustafi have impressed as a pairing in defence for Arsenal

"I think it’s because we see football in quite a similar way," said Mustafi.

"We’re not trying to be just defenders - we try to start the game from the back, to play football and not just clear the ball.

Arsenal defender Shkodran MustafiGETTY

"If you have the possibility to keep the ball on the pitch, then do so. Even when we’re trying to defend, we look to go forward too - not just drop, drop, drop and find yourself always in the box.

"I think they’re small details that show we see the game the same way, and then it makes everything easier because when I have to deal with a situation he knows how to react to cover me, and I’m the same.

"I see a situation and think, 'He’s going to go,' because I know I could go as well, but then I can cover him. If you see the game with the same eyes it’s easier, and that’s what’s happening."

Arsene Wenger: This is why Arsenal beat Bournemouth Five things we learned about Arsenal against Bournemouth

ARSENE WENGER has claimed Arsenal beat Bournemouth because they found another level to their game in the second-half.

Arsenal took an early lead against Bournemouth after Alexis Sanchez latched onto a poor back-pass from Steve Cook.

Eddie Howe's side then levelled things up before half-time thanks to a penalty from Callum Wilson.

However, the Gunners pushed on in the second-half with goals from Theo Walcott and Sanchez.

And Arsene Wenger was glad to see the Gunners up their levels for the final 45 minutes, claiming that was the difference between the two sides.

"Yes overall [in the second-half] I think we got better during the game but Bournemouth played well," Wenger told Sky Sports.

"They started with high intensity… physicality… and I saw and thought they would drop a little bit in the second-half.

1. Alexis Sanchez can lead the line without being isolated. He pestered, hassled and terrorised Bournemouth

"We were unlucky because the penalty for them was another questionable one and after that we had to improve our level in the second-had which we did."

And Wenger was also glad to see his players pick themselves up despite a disappointing 2-2 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League midweek.

"In patches yes [fluency was back]," Wenger added.

Arsenal remain in fourth place - three points off league leaders Chelsea.
