IAN WRIGHT says he was disappointed by Alex Iwobi’s performance for Arsenal at the weekend.

Arsenal drew 1-1 with Tottenham at the Emirates after Harry Kane cancelled out Kevin Wimmer’s own goal.

Alex Iwobi got the nod to start the north London derby on the left wing, with Theo Walcott replacing Aaron Ramsey on the opposite flank.

The young Nigerian has enjoyed plenty of game time under Arsene Wenger this term but following the return of Ramsey from injury, Iwobi is now battling for his starting place.

But Wright, who made 221 league appearances for the Gunners, believes the French boss made the wrong call for the visit of Tottenham.

“I thought Alex Iwobi might have been better as a substitute,” said Wright.

“Aaron Ramsey has a bit more experience. He [Iwobi] was a bit disappointing.

“I felt for him. He was nervous. A couple of his passes were knocked out of play.

Arsene Wenger should have started Aaron Ramset ahead of Alex Iwobi, says Ian Wright

“It might have been a better one for him to come off the bench and have an impact.”

A draw for the Gunners leaves them fourth in the table, three points ahead of their fifth-placed rivals, and two adrift of leaders Liverpool.
