Wenger Reveals Giroud Has Suffered Another Injury

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Olivier Giroud has picked up another injury during Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates on Saturday.

The Gunners returned to winning ways thanks to an Alexis Sanchez double and a header from Theo Walcott to remain just three points behind league leaders Chelsea.

However, it was not all good news with Mathieu Debuchy, a surprise starter, limping off early on and Giroud also picking up a problem.

After scoring against both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, Giroud was again relegated to the bench for Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

He eventually came on with 14 minutes to go, replacing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and made an impact, setting up Sanchez for his second of the afternoon.

However, speaking after the game Wenger admitted the France international had picked a problem and would need to have the injury assessed.

“The only worry we have is Giroud, he looked a little bit to touch his hamstring. We have to see how big the damage is,” he told Arsenal‘s official website.

“With the hamstring. In the first moment, he told me that he felt a twitch in the back of his hamstring and we will see. I hope it’s not too bad because he told me after that when he sprinted he didn’t feel anything.”

The news will be a blow to the Gunners ahead of a busy period with Southampton to come in the EFL Cup in midweek followed by a trip to West Ham next weekend.

Giroud has been in good form in recent weeks, and with Lucas Perez still recovering from injury and only recently back in training may well have been in line to feature against Southampton.

Despite his two goals against Bournemouth, Sanchez looks in need of a rest and Giroud’s injury could give Wenger a selection headache ahead of the midweek visit of Claude Puel’s side.
