Arsenal agree £18m deal for Serie A midfielder

We are still on the hunt for a defensive midfielder, and have been linked with a summer move for Lazio midfielder Lucas Biglia, according to Italian publication .

We have been linked with a move for the tough tackling Argentine before, back when he was playing for Belgian side Anderlecht. A move never materialised however, and he eventually switched to Serie A in 2013.
The 29-year-old was more of a defensive midfielder in the Belgian Pro League, and with a penchant for leadership he captained Anderlecht for years.
He has been enjoying a slightly more creative role at Lazio however, and has created among the most chances at the club. He has still got through a huge amount of defensive work this season though, and could be a solid signing.
A deal is allegedly already in place, with an £18m price tag being quoted. This seems astronomical for a 29-year-old, and I can’t see Arsene Wenger forking out that much for him – which leads me to believe this rumour has little truth in it.
With the emergence of Francis Coquelin our need for a defensive midfielder has lessened, and if we are going to bring someone in during the summer then he would need to be a major improvement.
