Arsenal announce Barclays Asia Trophy pre-season tournament

The Gunners are set to visit Singapore for the first time since 1991 this summer as part of three Premier League outfits participating in this years Barclays Asia Trophy Singapore.
The pre-season tournament will commence in mid July 2015 and will feature the likes of Arsenal, Everton, Stoke City and a Singapore Select XI team at the freshly constructed National Stadium in the Singapore Sports Hub.
This summer will mark the Gunners debut in the competition which has been held biennially since its inception in 2003, but it is the first time Singapore will play host.
The National Stadium holds 55,000 fans with the tournament set to host two matches a day on Wednesday, July 15 and Saturday, July 18.
The announced the details, with Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore expressing his delight to welcome Arsenal into the competition that has been won by the likes of Chelsea (twice winners) and Manchester City more recently.
He said:
“We are very excited to bring the Barclays Asia Trophy to Singapore for the first time. We know Singaporeans love their football and that they are huge fans of the Barclays Premier League. Our aim is to put on a tournament worthy of the Singapore’s 50th birthday celebrations and for that we have three teams who epitomise the best of our League.”

Everton under Roberto Martinez continue to play an exciting brand of football, while Stoke City mix flair with a never-say-die attitude.
