We are apparently still keen on signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira this summer, but have to act quickly if we want to secure his signature, according to .
We have long been linked with a move for the German international, with a switch seemingly close on a number of occasions. The World Cup winner is reportedly close to a move back to his homeland however, with Schalke 04 looking a likely destination.
Former Chelsea boss Roberto di Matteo is thought to be keen on the La Liga star, and Khedira would welcome a return to Germany.
“It’s my impression that Khedira wants to return to the Bundesliga,” said Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies.
“I believe he does not doubt that for a second. I believe there aren’t too many clubs in Germany coming into question.”
Khedira is certainly a top class midfielder, but he isn’t the player he once was, and his career has been plagued by injuries. He would be available on a free transfer this summer, but there are plenty of far better options available out there – who would demand significantly lower wages too.
The tough tackling 27-year-old certainly wouldn’t be a bad signing, but I feel like there are other avenues we should be exploring before we look at bringing him to the Emirates.
