Arsene Wenger had plenty of positives to take from our 3-0 win over West Ham, but picked out Olivier Giroud for special praise, as reported by .
The Frenchman was particularly pleased with his compatriot’s performance against the Hammers, with the HFB scoring, assisting, and contributing all over the pitch with his link-up and hold-up play.
We dominated the game right from the off, but despite creating chances we seemed unable to get the all important goal.
Giroud made sure we went into half time with a lead however, his venomous strike into the far corner making it 1-0 just before the break.
Wenger commended the striker for his mental strength, highlighting the fact that just a few years ago he was playing in the third division of French football.
“This is a boy who played at 22 or 23 years old in division three and then becomes an international player.
“You need some mental strengths to do that because there is no red carpet and you have to work hard.
“You need some special strengths – Giroud had an outstanding game today.
“I know all these offensive players have the quality to deliver something special but what is for sure is they understand each other better than six or seven months ago.
“That makes everybody more dangerous.”
Giroud has unquestionably fantastic today, and his movement and passing between the team looked almost telepathic at times.
The manager is right when he says the players look like they understand each other more, and that has always been a staple of Arsenal football. Our fast paced, flowing style of football relies on the players knowing each other well, and hopefully that understanding will continue to grow.
