Shkodran Mustafi has admitted team-mate Mesut Ozil is “incredible” but has joked that he does not want to praise his wonder goal against Ludogorets too much in case it goes to his head.
The Germany international scored a stunner to complete a memorable 3-2 comeback against Ludogorets as Arsenal booked their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Mustafi has praised Ozil’s composure under pressure in front of goal but says his exploits come as little surprise to his team-mates who are well aware of his talent.
“I don’t want to say too much because it will get in his head and he’s going to think he’s the best again!” he joked according to the official Arsenal website.
“No, we know his qualities. He is incredible. He is calm in front of goal, I think I would have just taken the first touch and shot from 20 yards away!
“But he stays cool, he has the calmness and finishes off brilliantly.”
Arsenal must now battle it out with PSG for top spot in Group A with the two sides set to clash at the Emirates Stadium on November 23.
However, Mustafi is refusing to get carried away and says the team must now turn their attentions to beating Tottenham on Sunday.
“I say after every game that there is no point in thinking too far ahead,” he added, “because you have two or three days between games and there is no time to think about the Champions League anymore.
“The game is finished now and in three days you have another one. The next game is Tottenham and that’s going to be important as well at home, so we are focused for that one now.”
Mustafi may just be the only person not willing to praise Ozil for his superb strike with players and social media awash with compliments, and rightly so, for the German genius.
